Sunburn was released in January 1980[1] and contains "22 'BLAZING' DISCO HITS", including tracks from the movie of the same name starring Farrah Fawcett (pictured on the front cover), Charles Grodin, Art Carney, Joan Collins, William Daniels and John Hillerman, that was released in August 1979, by Paramount Pictures, and was in UK cinemas from January 30, 1980.[2] It was a box office flop.[3]
 | Graham Gouldman of 10cc, wrote the theme song, "Sunburn", which was released as a single (left) in the UK[4] and peaked at #52 in the UK Singles Chart (Top 75) in June 1979[5], exactly six months before the film opened in British cinemas. 10cc themselves have two tracks on this album, both featuring in the film. Just 10 of the tracks here actually featured in the film and appear on the official soundtrack album released in the US in 1979 (right), which features seven tracks by composer John Cameron rather than just the one in this collection ("Sunburn Theme")[6]. The songs "Shake It, Baby Love", "Le Jardin", and "Love Attack" were part of a disco medley on that album, and not as separate tracks on this one. According to IMDb, the film also featured "With a Little Luck" by Wings, and "Around the World" by Victor Young[7], which had been the theme tune for the 1956 film 'Around the World in 80 Days' starring David Niven[8]. |  |
Missing from Spotify are "I Don't Wanna Lose You" by Kandidate, "It's My House" by Storm (Diana Ross' original recording of "It's My House" is included in the playlist), and "Le Jardin" by Sundancers.
The album entered the UK Albums Chart w/e February 9, 1980 at #66 for an initial run of four weeks. It peaked at #45 w/e February 23, 1980. It would return w/e March 15, 1980 at #71 for a further three weeks.[9]
