The Bachelors
The Bachelors are a popular music group from Ireland. The founding members of the group were Conleth (Con) and Declan (Dec) Cluskey, and John Stokes. They formed The Harmonichords in 1957, a classically styled instrumental harmonica-act. In 1960, they changed their name to the Bachelors on the recommendation "because that's the kind of boy a girl likes". Despite the Bachelors' last chart single being in 1967, they continued to play the cabaret circuit, still maintaining the original line-up until 1984, when there was "a messy split" between the Cluskey brothers and Stokes. They now appear separately as Con & Dec the Bachelors, and John Stokes' the Bachelors.[1]
They released over 40 singles in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s[2] and and had 17 hits between 1963 and 1967[3].
